About Us

We are blessed to have Reverend Joyce Reece Kitchen, a Los Angeles native, as our pastor. She is a strong advocate for reading and education in general, and she practices what she preaches, as her credentials show. Her numerous degrees are as follows:

  • Bachelor of Sociology, University of Southern California (U.S.C)
  • M.S.W. The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA)
  • Bachelor of Health Science, California State University at Dominguez Hills (CSUDH)
  • P.A. Certification (Master’s equivalent), Charles R. Drew Postgraduate Medical School

Pastor Joyce (as she is fondly referred to) has a diverse and rich history of service to the community in addition to being an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Pastor Joyce

Before and during her current work as our minister and pastor, she spent an enriching career helping others for 17 years as a physician assistant specializing in pediatric care. She also worked as an adoption specialist with the Department of Children and Family Services.

Pastor Joyce also helped build and launch The National Family Life and Education Center, a non-profit agency that provides services to “at-risk” youth and their families.

There is a saying that goes: “You do best, what you do most.” Over the years, Reverend Joyce Reece Kitchen has been a vehicle for love, service, and charity. We at Emmanuel-Henry McNeal Turner firmly believe she has done it well, and we think she is “The Best.”

Our Mission

The people of God called Emmanuel - Henry McNeal Turner African Methodist Episcopal Church are striving to communicate the truth of God's Word through the participation, outreach, and evangelism activities that others, as well as ourselves, may lead a Christ-centered life.

"For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland." - Isaiah 43:19 NLTA
